Things That Make Me Feel Old...

It doesn't seem like that long ago that I was standing in line at the DMV on my 16th birthday nervously awaiting my driver's test so I could get my license and the freedom that came with it! Now I am sitting in the passenger seat, nervously scanning the road and trying to cram at least 10 year's driving experience into my 15 1/2 year old daughter.

I remember the age well...nothing could stop me or hurt me, the driving teacher was an old fogey, and that WAS a complete stop...sort of. Fun, was cramming all my friends into the car, blasting the radio, and ignoring the speed limit just for the heck of it. Seat belts? Would have never crossed my mind, and I don't think they worked anyway. So my question is...

What were they thinking? Who ever had the bright idea to let 16 year olds drive? Why am I suddenly empathising with my old fogey driving teacher?

Darn Karma!

I'm trying to figure out how on earth my parents ever let me go anywhere without a cell phone.

And yes, it's almost an out-of-body experience. We are on our 3rd learner now. It never gets easier.

My 15 year old just finished driver's ed which is a mandatory course nowadays. The teacher scared these kids to death with graphic photos and details of car accidents and drunk driving. Meanwhile, I can recall driving with a bottle in my hand....and no seat belt, I might add. And yes, I love her teacher for doing that. Even armed with all this knowledge and fear, I still think a 16 year old is too young and immature to handle a loaded gun, but that's how it is, so I just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Besides, they're not up against what we were up against....i.e. no seat belts, no drinking & driving laws, no common sense.....
