Boxer, Feinstein Vote To Keep Illegal Aliens In Healthcare Bill

Just wanted to point out that Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein both voted to block an amendment to the recent health care bill which would have required a verification system to access taxpayer subsidized health insurance.

With no border enforcement, this amounts to a bottomless pit for taxpayers.

Retro Housewife Discovers Quantum Physics and God

We were listening to the radio last night on the way home from dinner (son had invited entire German exchange program over for party and house was full of teenagers and techno) and they were talking about these weird particles.

So it turns out that there are particles that apparently don't exist unless you observe them, and another set that behave differently if you observe them and even particles that maintain some type of bond no matter how far apart from each other they are. In the last case they mentioned an experiment done where two of these particles were shot down fiber optic lines 7 kilometers apart. When one little guy changed his direction, the other one did too. Wowsers.

My first reaction was "why didn't anybody tell me about this?" Then my husband filled me in about how this is all quantum physics and they have known about this for years and big colliders and what not. Harumpf. My first husband was a particle physicist and we spent 7 years chasing colliders around the world (he is going to be in some pretty hot water, let me tell you).

First there was SLAC then we moved to DESY and I have been to CERN twice - the first time I learned about a new computer network that could link lots of stuff together and they're calling it the World Wide Web and watch how we put a camera on the coffee pot two floors up and can view it on the web to make sure there is coffee in the pot before we waste time climbing stairs only to discover an empty pot.

Then there was the time I didn't go to Rome - why would I go to Rome? There is no collider in Rome! I went to almost Rome which was an almost city in some mountains about 100 Kilometers outside of Rome. Deep in those mountains is guess what? A particle collider of some sort. So my then-husband disappeared into the mountain and my daughter, who was around 2 at the time, and I stayed on top and talked to some Italian goats.

The point being that not once did anybody ever mention these magic particles. All they ever talked about was SUSY. SUSY, SUSY, SUSY and some other bozo that was missing. If you ask me, this SUSY gets around just a little too much and might want to consider her reputation just a wee bit.

But back to the magic particles. They open up a whole new realm of possibilities - don't they? If they are somehow called into existence by us thinking about them, then it seems to me that the power of prayer - (or meditation in case you're a hippie) could have something to it.

And what about the particles that know what the other one is doing? Isn't it possible that when people say they get a premonition or twins who have some unexplained connection it could be based on particles such as these? That a parallel universe is possible?

That maybe faith is important because God only exists if we believe he does?

Maybe some day this will all be explained, maybe it is beyond our capacity to comprehend. But to me, all those people out there who are so sure that religion is baloney are sounding a lot like the guy in the patent office in the early 1900s who wanted to shut it down because "Everything that can be invented has already been invented."

Dare to admit you don't know everything.

Dear President Obama

Dear President Obama,

Why is this man in your government? "Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez"

"Mr. Perez, who previously served as a board member of the pro-amnesty organization CASA de Maryland"

A group that gets funding from Venezuela? It is not difficult to trace links from Casa de Maryland to meetings in Venezuela concerning overthrowing the American government. Communists, who are sitting around waiting for the revolution. Are you nuts? Or are you really a communist?

I am horrified, I must say! I have been defending you, but I know far too much about communists to ever be able to support a sympathizer.

Thank you.

Drunk Girl Cries Rape, Soccer Star Jailed For 6 Years

Last night, my husband told me about a case he had just read about concerning a young, extremely talented soccer player at UCSB who had been sentenced to prison for 6 years after being convicted of rape. What bothered him, was there was absolutely no physical evidence to corroborate her story. "How can they send somebody to jail based solely on an accusation?" he wanted to know.

I went upstairs and read the article on ESPN to see if there was perhaps something he had missed, because I really didn't have an answer for him. They don't convict people when there is no evidence, I thought. But they do.

From reading the article, I learned that the 18 year old UCSB freshman was so drunk, she couldn't even remember how she got to the place she said she was raped. The hospital reported that her blood alcohol was at a near fatal level. Not only that, she had just gotten her driver's license back after a DUI conviction. Her statements to the police are so full of I don't remembers, that it wasn't even clear to me that she really believed she was raped. She hadn't wanted to go to the police, but her sister and friend convinced her.

Hmmm, I thought. A sister. A sister is possibly a direct line of communication to a set of parents, who just might be disappointed to learn that their daughter was traipsing around Isla Vista at all hours drunk as a skunk. Better come up with something quick to make them not focus on that. You have no idea to what lengths an 18 year old female will go to preserve her image in the eyes of her parents. Maybe she hadn't wanted to go to the hospital because the rape story had been intended for her sister and friend's consumption only. Then they wouldn't get on her case for boozing it up again after already having gotten into serious trouble for doing just that. Maybe there had been talk of sending her to rehab, or taking away her Visa card. Who knows?

Or maybe she really had been raped, but by her jealous ex-boyfriend with whom she had spent a good part of the evening and who was seen following her around that night. Oh yeah, and who's semen had been found on her underpants at the hospital. No evidence that the accused had even had sex with this girl, but direct conclusive evidence that jealous ex-boyfriend had. Only he said it had happened a week earlier. A week? This girl has been wearing the same underwear for a week? Know any teenage girls who wear the same underwear for a week?

The police didn't bother to look into that, however, because there was, right from the start, only one suspect. A guy she could accuse and then not be faced with dealing with the guilt of watching him go through hell - because she didn't know him. Much easier to do that.

In a case with no physical evidence, it comes down to a he said, she said, and then you have to decide based on the character of both people, who to believe. Except that her character was off limits out of fear of blaming the victim. His character on the other hand, is impeccable. He seems to be one of those people who inspires others and by all accounts is a humble, respectful human being.

There is one thing though that makes him suspicious. He is black. And a foreigner . Two things. Two things that make him very, very suspicious. Black and from Ghana. Well why didn't I just say that from the beginning?

Our Very Own German And A Winch

What with all my pontificating of late I forgot to mention that we are participating in a high school exchange program organized by my son's very industrious German teacher. Tomorrow, I head off to the airport to collect as many German Gymnasium students plus luggage, as I can fit into my SUV. We get to keep one of them - at least for the next 5 weeks. Our Very Own German (VOG). In June, my son will go to Germany to become a German family's Very Own American (VOA).

We are very excited - this is the first time we have done something like this, however, I am totally freaking out because the house is a mess and I really need to clean the carpets. I know how Germans are having lived among them for some time - and if there is anything you need to know about Germans it is that Ordnung muss sein. You just won't get around that one.

In other, unrelated news, I have bought myself a winch from Northern Tool. The reason I bought it is because it was only around $10 and they seemed to be very excited about their $10 winch and as I was buying a rain barrel anyway (to collect a bit of the downpour we had been having for summer watering - which stopped the second I clicked "Buy" in my shopping cart - sorry Southern California), I decided to purchase the winch as well.

It has now arrived and it looks much like a giant pencil sharpener without the outer casing and grinder thingies, but is quite sturdy and I am sure is quite useful for something. I am getting a real kick out of the fact that I am now officially "a wench with a winch" and am off to Amazon now to look for a book on "Fun With Winches" or "The Top 5 Useful Things To Do With A Winch".

I would love to brag about my new rain barrel but I am afraid that if I do, I will cause another drought here in SoCal, and then everyone will be mad at me.

Ta for now,

Laughable Luddites Lament Library - A Poem

Larry and Lisa lingered outside,
their local library soon to demise.

Where can I find the knowledge I seek,
lamented Larry then Lisa now for a week.

Such a spectacle they made with laments so loud,
they caused the formation of a curious crowd.

What have we before us?
cried the crowd now in chorus,
No need to fret, it's all on the net,
Libraries you see, now only bore us!

Leave us alone with your laments for libraries,
lest we so tire of listening we set fire to your library.

Then they all took their mices
to their electronic devices
and logged on online
which suited them fine.

Leaving Larry and Lisa lamenting their library.

Lingering doubt, unsure what about,
left Lenny quite queasy,
but since it was easy, he connected now quickly,
to read all the news,
so much from to choose,
he soon was besotted
with an item he spotted
of a forthcoming storm
and the need to keep warm

He failed to take heed
of the most urgent need
to quiet the ire
and stop the hot fire

Set by the crowd to the library.

Up in black smoke went the knowledge of nations,
amid cheers from the crowd,
could be heard growing loud
the rumble and grumble of deafening thunder.

Then a bright flash
that caused all to dash,
from the rain and the wind,
that now did descend,
on the crowd with their mices
and electronic devices.

The powerful storm lasted less than an hour,
but the damage was done,
it had taken the power.

Where can we find the knowledge we seek?
cried those with the mices
and electronic devices,
who now tried in vain
to lessen their pain
by logging on quickly
to learn news of the sickly
and ways now to cope
but alas there's no hope!

It no longer suffices
to have electronic devices
rendered useless and dark
by one little spark.

The End.

I Want A Healthcare Bill - And I Still Support Obama

We have health insurance through my husbands employer. They pay for his insurance and he pays the premium to cover me and the two kids. This amounts to around $960 per month or $11, 520 per year.

It must be one of those Cadillac policies they talk about, right? I don't think so - if I compare it to the policy I had when I was 20, it seems to cover less. It also has a 10% pay-it-yourself clause. That doesn't seem like much until you consider what it means to have any kind of surgery or major illness treated. A coworker of my husband had surgery on his ankle which cost $200,000 - making his part of the bill $20,000. Those are the types of costs that we are trying to insure against! Not to mention the fact that $200,000 ankle surgery is much like the $600 toilet seats of the 1980s.

Here is my opinion - call it the GenX, white, female, housewife, home-based business and 2 dog owning, with kids vote. Get your bloody acts together, sit down and have educated, adult conversations, negotiate and get something done. I personally support a public option because I have seen it work. What we have now is failing miserably and I am not the least bit satisfied with our current coverage, the availability of medical treatment or just about anything to do with medicine in general.

You know what the problems are, both sides have valid concerns on the issues and those issues must be addressed - both sides must be heard. That means one side has to shut up and listen, and the other side has to open their stupid yaps and say something besides "Start Over". You had your chance to do something and did not and if there is one thing I hate, it is a bunch of idiots who sit around and do nothing when the ship hits an iceberg and then rant, rave and scream about the life boat effort.

I have my own problems and kids to look after, I need medical insurance that is actually medical insurance - not a get rich quick scheme for the health care industry, nor a convoluted social program. Do your jobs, you bunch of losers!

Now, concerning Obama. I read a lot. I read newsletters from the right, left and in between. I hear a lot of name calling, accusation slinging, stupidity etc as well as good information, important facts, etc. Here is what I can't seem to wrap my mind around. For all the horrid things being said about Obama and his socialist tendencies, when the guy opens his mouth to speak, a lot of sense and reason comes out. I can not seem to reconcile the accusations made against the man, with what the man actually says.

He is trying to address a problem that drastically needs to be addressed. If you don't like what he is saying, become part of the conversation. But make no mistake, no solution is not a solution and will not be a victory for republicans. At least not with the GenX, white, female, housewife, home-based business and 2 dog owning, with kids vote.
