Robert Redford Declares War On France

I spent all morning fretting about my place in the world after I learned from Robert Redford that there are 3 types of people: Traditionalists, Cultural Creative People and the Moderns. Where, oh where do I fit in?

REDFORD: Well, I can because the country is made up of three categories. Traditionalists, cultural creative people and the moderns. The moderns are the hi-tech Silicon Valley people. The traditionalists on the lower end of it are the people who don’t want change, they’re afraid of change therefore they have anger. The fear card is a very big powerful card and when you have people afraid of change; they’ll do anything to prevent it. They’re doing it because they’re limited, frightened of people who are not as limited. I think Sarah Palin, part of her strength is how limited she is.”

I suppose I used to be a Modern since I worked for a tech company in Silicon Valley, and I am not too creative - I have trouble drawing stick figures so I can't be a Cultural Creative, and I rather like tradition, so I must be a Traditionalist, I finally decided.  But according to Robert Redford, traditionalists are "limited" which is a polite way of saying "stupid" and I really don't want to think of myself as being stupid, even if it turns out that I am really stupid.

So I had to re-examine Robert Redford's statement to see whether that clever fellow really meant to call anybody with a penchant for tradition "stupid" or whether he had an ulterior motive.

I started to think about people who are really keen on tradition, who value their culture above all else and will go to any extent to protect it - and it suddenly became obvious - Robert Redford hates the French and thinks they are stupid.

France is always going on about French tradition, culture and they are so opposed to changes in the French language they have an entire federal ministry devoted to doing battle against un-French additions to their language.

To save the crown jewel of French culture, Paris, the French even capitulated to the Nazis so that German bombs would not damage (i.e. change) the city that is the cumulative result of hundreds of years of French tradition and French culture. I am sure that is what Robert Redford meant when he said "they will do anything to prevent it".

I have to say that I am surprised that Robert Redford still holds a grudge against the French for their actions in WWII, I didn't think he was old enough to have been so personally affected. But then I saw a recent photo of him and decided he is probably much older than I thought he was.

Still, I do not think it is wise for us to enter into another war at this time, and since I rather like the French, I am at peace with my new classification as a "limited Traditionalist".

Somebody should keep an eye on this Redford character though, he seems like a real trouble-making rapscallion.

Whew. Now I can sleep tonight. Good old Bob Redford THE ACTOR has summed up our country for us by organizing us into categories. Genius. Pure genius.

Being in the lower end of the categories I don't like to think about what life would be like without a Hollywood mastermind like Bob laying out a path for me to follow.
